Hello Everyone!
I just took Step 1 not long ago and just want to share my experience with all of you. At the beginning when I just started (June batch 2009), I was in the same boat as you are: nervous, self-doubt, uncertain about the exam. Looking back, registering in Mike (askdoc)'s course was the best decision I ever made during my exam prep. Without his guidance, encouragement, and solid advice on time management for the exam, I probably would not make it. Also, just knowing he is always there to help was a huge assurance. So, Mike, a big THANKS to you!
Here is my performance on Step and during prep:
Step 1: 219/91
UW: 57 to 62 (though at the beginning I got low 40s, but I pulled up the score quickly)
old NBME: 70-75% correct
Running out of time (due to unexpected sickness), so didn't do Kaplan Q. I am thinking if I have followed Mike's suggestion closely, I could have gotten a better score!
My prep material:
ALL Kaplan books (some subjects are not enough that is why used other books as supplements - please see below)
FA: used at the end to check if anything was left out
Askdoc's pathology course :)
Pharmacology: Katzung (simply b/c I am more familiar with the format)
Micro: LEvinson
UW Qbank (online version to train on speed and critical thinking)
All I have to say is LISTEN TO MIKE! Attending weekly chat session, ask him if you got Qs. He would be the best person to turn to.
My 2 cents. Best of luck, Everyone.
